If there was a hotter guy than Sal Franzisi in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday, we sure didn't see him anywhere around the Sault Area Hospital Foundation's Chilifest.

By 4 p.m., an hour before the scheduled closing time, hungry chili lovers had devoured every drop of the delectable stuff from every one of the participating restaurants, leaving Sal with nothing to do but clear away the remaining Franzisi's Ristorante chili peppers.

Foundation officials tell SooToday.com that the popular event attracted almost twice as many visitors as last year.

By 2:30 p.m., 2,000 hospital bracelets (needed for entry) had been sold.

Once again, the judges declared the Lone Star Texas Grill and Bar to be the Sault's best chili-maker.

And the Lone Star staff also made off with this year's People's Choice Award.

The Docks Riverfront Grill booth, done up as a hospital ward, was declared the best decorated and was undoubtedly appreciated by those experiencing the inevitable onset of post-Chilifest gastrointestinal distress.
